Your Questions About recliners

Linda asks…

Anyone know where to find a small sized (not child sized though) recliner chair?

I am decorating and am looking to put a comfortable recliner chair in a somewhat small space. Anyone have any ideas as to where I can find one? I looked at places like IKEA, but most chairs have the dimentions of 30×35 (or around there). I am looking for something that is smaller than 30×30. Can anyone help?!? Please! :)

newreclinerchairs.com answers:

At any cheap store. The cheaper the store. The smaller the recliners.

Paul asks…

how do you make a recliner chair swivel?

I have a rocking recliner that I'd like to keep, but want it to swivel. I found a place selling extra heavy duty swivels, but I don't want to have to take the chair off the existing base. Is there an easy way to accomplish this task?

newreclinerchairs.com answers:

Put the recliner on a large "Lazy Susan" and go at it! Other than that I don't see any "easy" way to do this!

In front of the TV im a fan of the recliner.

Steven asks…

I have a new blue grey rocker and a med blue recliner what color do I use for sofa?

I want it to flow in color

newreclinerchairs.com answers:

I suggest a light tan. That way when the blue goes, the sofa won't have to go too. What's on your floors – hardwood or carpet??? You may want to add an area rug in the seating area (at least 5×8) with some color & pattern in it, incorporating some blue. Add pillows on the sofa with blues. Paint walls a couple shades darker than your tan sofa. Drapery treatments can pick up another color in the rug. Use this color in other accessories as well, including a second pair of pillows on the sofa.

William asks…

My lower back is really hurting, but only when i sit on the sofa or recliner chair!?

Some one told me that it could be "poor posture." Is it an thing to do with me sleeping with four pillows? My back is really hurting! Just at the centre and lower, but it is only when I am sitting on the chair!!!! ANy explanations???? Thanks

newreclinerchairs.com answers:

It isn't caused by your posture at all, if it was half of the world would be in pain. It is caused by a pinched muscle in your back and now there are positions that put more pressure on the pinched area than other positions will and that is what causes the pain to worsen when sitting, the most pressure is being applied to the pinched area. If you moved your body some the pressure would be off and the pain would lessen. To get rid of the pain all you have to do is release the muscles in your back and it will be gone. Here's how to release the muscles: Back: (do from a sitting position) Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and find the muscles next to your spine and firmly press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side. For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

Your Questions About Recliner Repair

Maria asks…

La-z-boy recliner upholstery repair..?

Was recently given a nearly new la-z-boy recliner.. A couple of the bolster buttons on the seat-back have been stretched away from the face fabric.. They're STILL ATTACHED, it's just that their attachment cords are stretched.. QUESTIONS : What are these cords attached to inside the seat-back ? Is it possible to replace these stretched cords with new ones, without disassembling the entire seat-back ? What would you recommend using ? I've got $00.00 invested in this chair and it's definitely worth repairing / saving ! Thanks for any / all help ..

newreclinerchairs.com answers:

Most bolster buttons are secured via the internal springs, in a webbed fashion, connected to other bolsters. For a permanent repair carefully remove the back fabric cover from the area needing repair. Look for broken bolster strings, replace them. If none are broken re-tie the elongated strings and replace the back of the recliner. Most back covers are secured using a tack strip of cardboard that is wrapped up in the back cover fabric, along each edge, sometimes with a fastener that is exposed at the top and/or bottom of the back cover. Be careful not to tear the fabric, and to replace it with the same "tension' as you found it. Starting at the top of the cover, and leaving the "loop" at the bottom. To repair this quickly, I very carefully push the strings back into the chair using an upholstery needle, then glue the buttons in place with fabric glue. Let the glue dry completely before using the chair and the repair should last. Be careful not to over use the glue for a top notch, beautiful repair.

Sandra asks…

How do you repair a broken weld without actually welding?

a joint on a lay-z-boy recliner snapped reciently. i'm wondering how, if it's even possible, to repair it without knowing how to weld and have the repair last through the jostling of sitting in the recliner. the area snapped used to be connected in a horizontal T-shape. the forward/backward piece snapped off the left/right piece. the chair can still be sat in, but it tilts slightly to the rear left.

newreclinerchairs.com answers:

There is stuff called JB weld you can get it at a hardware store its like 2 types of putty that you mix together and when they are mixed they harden into metal its amazing.

Laura asks…

disassembling/tearing apart a lazyboy recliner sofa?

I missed large item pickup. I'm moving and need to get rid of my lazyboy sofa asap. I easily figured out that I could unlatch and slide off the three seat backs but the built in seat cushions are mounted to the metal frame. How do I take them off? It was such a tight fit moving it in that there was some damage so I really want to get it apart, plus I need to fit it in a commercial dumpster.

newreclinerchairs.com answers:

You would have to cut them off but if its in good shape I bet you would find lots of takers, that would be willing to haul it off. Also if you can get it out without damage I would say do not cut it up, then if you put it on the curb any day I bet it will be gone in an hour.

Your Questions About Recliner Parts

Paul asks…

I moved my La Z Boy Recliner and found a bunch of parts on the floor under ?

On the floor, there were 2 small springs and two small metal rods (about 1 inch each) that those springs attach to. When I turned the recliner over there was a metal "arm" that has fallen out. I can see where the 'arm' goes put can't fugure out how to attach the two other parts and 2 springs to make the 'arm' stay in place. Does anyone know of a site that has a blow up diagram of the assembly so I can figure this out? Thanks

newreclinerchairs.com answers:

Just go to a store that sells them and tip one over and see where the parts go.

Sandy asks…

We have the internal steel parts of a recliner. very heavy stuff. is there value to this, or recycle?

newreclinerchairs.com answers:

Steel is bought back usually by the ton. They are priced in the low to mid $200's per ton. So we're talking 10-15 cents per pound. If you sell back at low pound amounts (less than 100 lbs), then the rate drops even more. It's worth it to the recyclers to pay more for more quantity. The more common money-makers are copper and perhaps brass. There might be some hope in aluminum, but aluminum is naturally light, so you need a lot of material for any significant weight. You also need to overcome the fact that aluminum has always been traditionally cheaper than most other scrap metals on a per pound basis.

Daniel asks…

recliner will not stay reclined, i don't know if it is missing any parts, bolts, a spring etc.?

newreclinerchairs.com answers:

Look underneath for parts. See if the mechanism is jammed up with hotwheels. Usually the footrest locks the chair.

Your Questions About Recliner Chair Parts

Chris asks…

Does anyone know of a source for a replacment pull release cable for a recliner chair?

I've searched everywhere on the web and I have not foun d a source for replacement parts for recliners. Any body have an idea where I could find such parts?

newreclinerchairs.com answers:

Depending on the exact mechanics, you can buy the exact cable in various lengths at any machine or hardware store. You could even go to an auto store and buy a Parking brake cable and use it. Some chairs use simple clamps that are reusable, but some have specialized attatchment systems. Take the whole thing with you, including the clamps or attatchment and look at a machine store first (meaning like a machine parts store.)

Daniel asks…

Recliner Chair Repair?

We purchased 2 Lane Furniture leather recliner/rocking chairs. They are a little more than a year old and out of warranty, but one of them seems to have a problem that I was wondering how much it would be to fix. In the normal seating position, not reclined and foot rest in, as soon as you sit in the chair it immediately begins to recline without ever touching the lever on the side. Even if you push the lever back down, if the weight of a person is on the chair, it tries to recline. I compared the workings of the mechanical parts to the chair that works fine. I found that the bar that runs from the left side to the right side, and the spring attaches to, is rotating a lot farther back than the other one. The bracket that the spring rotates on seems to be binding up with another bracket as well. The chair still works fine, as long as you always recline. If anyone knows how to fix this, any websites that would help, or good repair shops in Los Angeles that would be great. Thanks

newreclinerchairs.com answers:

Two leather recliners sounds like a fair investment!! Even if they are a little out of warranty, I think I would still go back to the dealer or manufacturer and question the quality of the chairs…….they shouldn't require repairs that quickly, regardless of warranty restrictions! At very least, they may be able to give you some tips on repairing the chair yourself. Good luck
